Mental health support for teens in London: What are your options?

Being a teenager isn’t always easy. With school, friendships, family, exams, social media – it can all feel like a lot. If you’re struggling with your mental health, it’s important to know you’re not alone. Lots of young people feel this way, and help is available – for free.

If you live in London and are aged between 10 and 25, there are several safe, supportive places you can turn to for mental health support. Whether you want to talk to someone, read helpful advice, or just feel understood, there’s something for you.

1. Kooth – Free Online Support for Young People

Kooth is a free, confidential mental health website made just for young people. It’s available across many areas of London, and you don’t need a referral or appointment to join.

Once you sign up at kooth.com, you can:

  • Chat online with friendly, qualified counsellors

  • Read helpful articles about anxiety, friendships, school stress, and more

  • Join discussion boards to hear from other young people

  • Keep a daily journal to track how you’re feeling

Everything is done online, so you can access Kooth from your phone or computer in a safe space that suits you. Counsellors are available until 10pm on weekdays and 6pm on weekends.

Kooth is trusted by the NHS and schools all over the country – it’s a safe place to get help, no matter what you’re going through.

2. Speak to Someone at School

Many schools and colleges in London have pastoral support teams, counsellors, or wellbeing leads. If you’re finding things hard, it’s okay to speak to a teacher you trust or ask to talk to someone privately. You’re not being dramatic or a burden – getting support is a strong, sensible step.

Schools can also help connect you with other services or programmes that are free for students.

3. NHS Services for Young People

If your feelings are really overwhelming, you can also get support through the NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

To access CAMHS, you’ll usually need a referral from a GP, teacher, or health worker. But there are also some free talking therapy services in London that you can refer yourself to – especially once you turn 16.

Search “NHS mental health support for young people London” or ask your GP for guidance.

4. Helplines and Chat Services

Sometimes, you might just need someone to listen. There are free helplines and chats open every day:

  • Childline – Call 0800 1111 or chat online at childline.org.uk

  • The Mix – Support for under 25s. Text THEMIX to 85258 or visit themix.org.uk

  • Shout – Text SHOUT to 85258 for 24/7 mental health support

You’re not alone. Whatever you’re feeling – whether it’s sadness, stress, anger, anxiety, or anything else – there are people who care and want to help.

Reaching out doesn’t make you weak. It shows strength, courage, and hope. And in London, you have options.

Whether you start with Kooth, speak to someone at school, or reach out to a helpline, know this: you deserve support – and it’s here when you’re ready.
